Abalone is a shell but is considered as an organic gemstone, similar to pearl and coral. Abalone has been used in jewelry making and religious ceremonies for countless ages. Abalone may also be called Mother of Pearl, or by the name Sea Opal, due to the iridescent blues and greens that are produced when polished, which is similar to the colour play of an Opal. Please note bead size and shape will vary.
